Braces: we have lift off

I know I’ve not written about the braces for ages, so you might have thought they were off, but no, they were very much still on - it’s been a long stint. I couldn’t write during my head thing, and then I went through a strange phase where they looked wonky, well my whole mouth looked wonky and the Ortho said they were fine and I just wanted to ignore the whole thing. So yesterday was the big day… off they snapped… it was very quick and pretty painless. And now I have very big teeth, in fact I think I have someone else’s teeth. I can’t decide whether they look good or not, I think I have to give it a few days.  I was kinda of expecting this reaction, hearing from others who have been through the same experience, but a part of me is disappointed that they didn’t come off and I didn’t instantly think that they looked amazing.

Theatre

A Year of Magical Thinking, Vanessa redgrave as good on stage as expected, but something oddly unemotional about the writing.

Glastonbury 2008

How bloody brilliant! By the second day all I could think, was why hadn’t I been before.

Friday: Kate Nash (just because it was early and easy), KT Tunstall (so made up for the gig at the Roundhouse), The Feeling (somewhere in the background), some Circus (to see M), Sinead O’Connor (impressed M by getting right the way through the crowd and she made me cry), Jimmy Cliff (great way to end the day bopping away). A trip to Shangri-La.

Saturday: Martha Wainwright (third row Pyramid stage), Seasick Steve (second row Pyramid stage), Crowded House (first row Pyramid stage - all wonderful especially the first two), Music Through Unconventional Means (Shlomo the human beatbox and friends including Martha and Martina Topley-Bird), The Last of the Shadow Puppets (special guest), MGMT (first two songs only), Amy Winehouse (last few songs from the sidelines and the loo), Massive Attack (I didn’t know I liked them).

Sunday: Black Mountain (because we were passing), Balkan Beat Box (bought the CD), Neil Diamond (wow, I was a kid again and the nicest of nice atmospheres), Goldfrapp (a bit squashed at the front, but good), Leonard Cohen (like 10 rows from the front - I am in love - he’s my man - one of the best gigs I’ve ever seen), The Verve (back of the front bit nursing a headache - incredibly professional with a fab lightshow, a fitting end).

Phew… what a weekend. And wait for it… I even enjoyed the camping…

Berlin Again

Ok this is me trying to catch up big time.

Berlin, my second (recent ish) trip was as L is saying over on Facebook about cake. A Sacha Torte, a Praline Torte and a Apfelstrudel to be exact. The last being the pièce de résistance. I met an old classmate as well as L and I’m sure she thinks I live on cake alone.

Apart from eating cake it was all about height: the top of the Reichstag, the top of the Neue Synagogue, the top of the Fernsehnturm… coincidence… I’ll have to have a think.

And reclaiming things: a bench in the Tiergarten, the German flag, the Reichstag, a Jewish film.

And an ever expanding flee market…

Magic Path

The park is looking lovely…. all afternoon tea colours… orange, pink and yellow.

What’s been going on

Thinking about blogging, but as you can see not blogging.

A gave me a tent and new wellies for Glasto

Saw The Last Days of Judas Iscariot - a bit disappointing - a lot of loud banging.

Head / ear / sinuses still up the spout.

Reading Jpod by Douglas Copeland - very funny

I am about to go out & buy a Dyson.

Lots of friends have parents who are unwell and it’s been on my mind a lot.

Have been making the most of a three month free voucher for Lovefilm - am very impressed with the way it works… although not so impressed with my choice of films.

Being lazy.

Working a lot.

Listening to too much Radio Four.

Seeing old friends.

Not seeing old friends.

Wearing wedges.

Glastonbury

Can you believe they still have tickets!

Email from a friend about what to bring:

Hi Melissa

Tent
Mat for sleeping on (the newish self-inflating type are quite good)_
Warm sleeping bag
Cushion?
Easy to carry camping chair (important when muddy)
Torch
Wet-ones
earplugs
Waterproof cape
Wellies
sandals
Sun hat
Sun lotion

This needs to be carried/ pulled along for a long way and over
Rough/muddy terrain
Rucksack? Load it on a small Trolley?

It’s the “pulled for a long way” that is slightly worrying me… bad back and all. Anyone have a helicopter?

Preparing for the mud

I got tickets… it’s a bit of an anti-climax because after the mornings excitement - they still have tickets now at 7pm? Obviously, its lost a bit of its gloss. And not only did we get tickets, we seem to have double booked ourselves… amazingly enough whilst I was getting through on the phone, a friend of a friend of a friend, was getting tickets online. OK, so worst scenario is they cancel both sets, but I rang and they assured me they’d only cancel one - but I might ring again to double check before I get too excited.

One of many

Trying to get Glastonbury tickets…
